Ibrahima Konate's Anfield departure confirmed by Liverpool

In the last couple of weeks, there have been several high-profile exits at Liverpool, whether it was club mainstays like Mo Salah or Andy Robertson, or the sudden sacking of second-year manager Arne Slot on Saturday morning. Things are changing in the red half of Merseyside.

It appears that these won’t be the only exits that Liverpool will have this summer, as they’re going to be losing their star defender, Ibrahima Konate.

The Frenchman’s time at Anfield comes to an end

According to a report put out by the club, the French defender will depart Anfield at the end of his contract, which will run out in the coming months.

“Liverpool FC can confirm Ibrahima Konate is set to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer,” the Reds’ statement reads.

This will bring to an end a five-year stint with the Premier League contenders for Konate, having made the move from RB Leipzig in 2021. Within his time at Anfield, the French defender would make 118 appearances, winning the English top flight in 2025, while also hoisting the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup on two separate occasions.

The move away will come after a season in which Konate appeared in 51 matches, the most he’s ever appeared in a single season for Liverpool, helping the team qualify for the Champions League for the coming season.

While there isn’t any set notion on where the Frenchman is set to go, he’ll have to think it over while he’s with the French national team in the FIFA World Cup.
