Team India star Axar Patel recalled his childhood memories back at home. He is currently with the Men in Blue, playing a T20I series in Australia. The all-rounder remembered his early days when he would play cricket with his friends at his home.
In a conversation with journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Axar explained how they would play cricket back in the day and the unique rules they followed.
"This is my main home ground. All friends would come and play here. The rules here were different. If the ball went out of the compound, it was out, one pitch catch was out. If you hit outside it was out, no boundary, and you had to play ground shots. That is why my straight drive is like always in the front and I don't play cross-batted. The boundary was only the front. No hitting out," he said.Like any other child, Axar would also break the glass of windows multiple times while playing with his friends. The Indian all-rounder also gave a hilarious response, saying that he told his mother he would pay for all the damage now that he plays international cricket.
"We used to break windows a lot and hear a lot of taunts as well. I have told my mom now that I will pay for all the glasses that I have broken, but she says just tell in interviews that you broke the windows here."His mother revealed how he was fascinated by the cricket ball in his childhood. She also expressed how she always wanted him to become an engineer, but it was his father who wanted him to become a cricketer. Axar's mother also expressed her feelings when India won the T20 World Cup in 2024, with the all-rounder playing a massive role in the victory.
India all-rounder recalls coming back home and spending time with friends
Despite being a star Indian cricketer, Axar Patel has stayed true to his roots and background. The all-rounder expressed feeling at peace whenever he came back home during breaks and spent time with his childhood friends.
He added how he feels his natural self and not Axar, the star cricketer. The 31-year-old also revealed having tea and snacks and enjoying a fun time with his friends.
"The schedule is very hectic but when I come back it is peaceful. I come with a few friends, most of them are busy with their lives now, but before we all would meet in the evening, there would be a tea stall, we would have tea and bread pakoda. When you are at home, even cheat days are okay for two to three days. We would keep gossiping and it is fun. We talk about past times and laugh with each other. This was our routine every day. I would forget that I am Axar Patel. Everyone would pull each other's leg," he said.Axar played a vital role in India's victory in the fourth T20I against Australia. He scored an unbeaten quickfire 11-ball 21 and also bagged two wickets with the ball. Over the years, he has become a key member of the T20I set-up.
