Two-way Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani took rapper Drake’s trash talk to heart during his team’s seven-game World Series win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, shared unflattering photos of Ohtani swinging and missing against the Jays, falling to one knee against Trey Yesavage, who appears to be walking back to the dugout on his follow-through, and another of him dressed to the gills and striking a pose, in an Instagram post.
Graham tried to claim he was joking. Even still, there were mind games at most innocent, and bullying at worst, being played by the Toronto-based rapper. Obviously, it didn’t work. Not that he intended for it to anyway.
Dodgers 2B Miguel Rojas, who saved the Dodgers’ season in Game 7 in the top of the ninth with a game-tying home run off closer Jeff Hoffman, shared that Ohtani used Drake’s IG smacktalk as fuel.
Rojas shared his own disdain for Drake’s behavior in his “Inside Baseball” clubhouse update..
“... That [Drake's trolling] doesn't go unnoticed," Rojas said. "When you kind of disrespect—a little bit—the best player in the game. Not understanding the quality of the person and what the guy has done for baseball. ... You don’t have to do that, man,” Rojas said to TMZ Sports.
Ohtani pitched 2.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in Game 7. All three runs came from a 3-run home run to Toronto shortstop Bo Bichette. He also had three strikeouts from the mound. At the plate, Ohtani had two hits and a walk in five appearances.
Being that it was L.A.-Toronto, Drake probably should’ve stayed out of it for the Kendrick Lamar memes alone. He made it worse for himself by going at the baseball diamond’s king and missing.
