Former sports analyst and columnist Jason Whitlock has disclosed his reason for rooting against Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The former ESPN columnist has been openly critical of Sanders and his supporters.
In a nine-minute-long video posted on his YouTube channel, the show host went on to explain his reason for wanting the Colorado alum to flop. He said (3:12):
“I want him to flop because I think his success would send a horrible message to young kids that arrogance, radical materialism, bravado, entitlement, playing the victim card is all a good thing. I don’t want young people to think that, ‘Hey, I got to dress up like a rapper. I have to make rap songs. I have to buy big gold chains. I have to talk in a way that makes me sound ghetto, even though I’ve never once seen the ghetto.’”•

Shedeur Sanders, much like his dad, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, has been quite a controversial figure, leading to a division of opinions about him. Despite leaving college on a high note, with projections of a first-round selection at the draft, Sanders has had a humbling experience in the NFL.
Chronicling Shedeur Sanders’ NFL experience
It started with having to wait till the fifth round to be selected by the Cleveland Browns, who had already drafted a quarterback. He has subsequently had to fight for an opportunity to play for the Browns, one he did not get until last Sunday against Baltimore.
Sanders completed four of 16 passes for 47 yards and an interception in the second half of the loss after coming on for Dillon Gabriel. While many have criticized the performance, it is important to look at the context of the quarterback’s NFL debut.
Not only didn’t he have any QB1 reps up to that point, but he was also not prepared to play any minute. However, Gabriel suffering a concussion that put him out of the game resulted in Shedeur Sanders’ debut.
But no such excuse will be tenable on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Sanders is no longer the inexperienced NFL rookie he was last week, but a potential franchise quarterback who has had an entire week of preparation.
The rookie quarterback has the opportunity to impress the Browns fans and lay claim to the QB1 role. The Browns have tried veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel to no success. Shedeur Sanders should make a good case for himself.
