49ers' Kyle Shanahan confirms one part of Brandon Aiyuk report from The Athletic

During his Saturday media availability, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed part of a new report about wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

The report, which comes from The Athletic's Dianna Russini and Mike Silver, revealed that Aiyuk and the Niners could be heading for a split in 2026.

Russini and Silver report that the 49ers have voided Aiyuk's guarantees after he failed to attend some team meetings and activities in recent months.

When asked about the situation on Saturday, Shanahan didn't touch on the idea that Aiyuk may have played his last game with the Niners.

He also said that, because of Aiyuk's rehab from his knee injury suffered in 2024, it's not uncommon for players going through that process to have a different schedule, which explains the missed meetings.

Shanahan did confirm, however, that Aiyuk's guarantees were voided, something that happened back in July.

"Yes, that happened back in July, though, so that was other things," Shanahan said of voiding Aiyuk's bonus for next season.

"But as far as missing meetings, things like that, any injured player, people on IR, doing rehab, their schedule is totally different than the rest of the team," he added. "So, sometimes they're involved in meetings, sometimes they're not at all."

"Any time a guy is on IR and stuff, they're not in the daily routine of meetings," Shanahan concluded.

As far as Aiyuk's chances of playing in 2025, Shanahan didn't have much of an update other than to say he's still "week to week."

Shanahan went on to say that there hasn't been "much dialogue" between himself and Aiyuk, and he also noted that "what happened in July has nothing to do with the future."
