“I reached out to Kenny Omega”- Major star reveals how he got to AEW

AEW star Kenny Omega is a modern-day great. He is a former AEW World Champion and the company's only Grand Slam Champion. Additionally, he is one of All Elite Wrestling's executive vice presidents.

The Cleaner has a good relationship with several fellow wrestlers. One of them is the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Konosuke Takeshita. Takeshita's rise in the Jacksonville-based company is well-documented. He debuted for them in 2021 and is now one of the most dominant members of The Don Callis Family. Interestingly, the 30-year-old considers the Best Bout Machine his mentor.

In a recent interview with Encount, the Japanese star explained how the former Omega brought him to AEW. He revealed that the 42-year-old offered him a dark match to wrestle. He eventually decided to go to the USA.

"I reached out to Kenny Omega, who is my pro wrestling mentor, for the first time in years, asking if I could get a match in AEW, even if it was just a dark match. Kenny said, ‘I'll put in a good word for you,’ and encouraged me, saying, ‘A TV match right away is impossible, but if a dark match is okay, why not give it a shot?’ That's how I decided to go to America," said Takeshita. Tony Khan on how Kenny Omega persuaded him to give Konosuke Takeshita an opportunity

In a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan explained how the Cleaner convinced him to give Konosuke Takeshita a chance. He was glad that he listened to the former world champion.

“It was Kenny Omega who first came to me and said, ‘I really believe in Takeshita, and if you give him an opportunity here, I think you’re really gonna like him,’ and boy was Kenny right..," said Khan.

Konosuke Takeshita has the potential to be the face of All Elite Wrestling in the future. Hopefully, he will become the AEW World Champion someday.
