Saints owner Gayle Benson provides stern update on potential sale of Saints, Pelicans

1 hour ago 2

Gayle Benson became the principal owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans when her husband, Tom, passed away in 2018.

Since then, the Saints are 72-40, a relative success. The Pelicans, on the other hand, are 292-355, and recently, there have been rumblings that the franchise could move out of New Orleans.

Does Benson have any intention to sell the franchises? Or is she keen on keeping control and looking to spearhead a New Orleans sports turnaround?

Gayle Benson has no interest in selling the Saints and Pelicans

In an interview with NOLA.com's Jeff Duncan, Benson was insistent that she has no plans to sell her teams.

"Let me be clear about this: The teams are not for sale. That's in capital letters," Benson said.

"I want everybody to know the teams are not for sale. I get tired of people asking me. I'm going to turn 79 in January, but I'm pretty healthy."

While most New Orleans sports fans are likely fine with the direction of the Saints, given their success in the 21st century, the Pelicans, on the other hand, could likely benefit from a change in leadership.

The fact of the matter is, owners are the lone position in sports that is fireproof.

No matter how loud the fan noise is, no amount of criticism will ever force an owner to sell.

All you can do is hope for the hiring of the right people to make the personnel decisions, and let the rest take care of itself.
