Rory McIlroy currently leads The Race to Dubai points tally. The Northern Irishman is in contention to clinch a fourth in a row and seventh overall title at the DP World Tour Championship 2025. However, he is closely followed by fellow Englishmen Marco Penge and Tyrrell Hatton.
LIV Golf’s Hatton entered the DP World Tour Championship this weekend sitting third on The Race to Dubai list. The Legion XIII player sits with 2,919 points, 1721 off the leading Northern Irishman. Despite being in contention, the LIV star has now revealed that his position doesn’t add pressure on him. The 34-year-old, speaking after his second-round outing at the Yas Links Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Friday, claimed that the points run makes the European Tour finale ‘no different.’
The Ryder Cupper added that he’s ‘not really thinking about it too much’ and is ‘trying to play better.’
Tyrrell Hatton said, as quoted by ASAP Sports:
“I haven't taken much notice of it to be honest until I think someone showed me on their Instagram or whatever. I know that I need to win. So, you start every tournament week trying to win the tournament. It's kind of no different. I know I need results to go my way if that was to happen. I'm not really thinking about it too much. Just trying to play better.”For the unversed, Hatton finished round two of the DP World Tour Championship at T11 after carding rounds of 70 and 67 to total seven-under 137 at Yas Island.
The Race To Dubai points explored
Rory McIlroy entered the DP World Tour Championship 2025 as the outright favorite to win the contest. The Northern Irishman is also the favorite to clinch yet another Race To Dubai title, his fourth in a row with 4,640 points from 10 outings. However, Englishman Marco Penge trails him by 767 after bagging 3,873 points from 25 events. His compatriot Tyrrell Hatton sat third with 2,919 points from just nine events.
Hatton’s points tally was catapulted by his win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and the solo second place finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The LIV star could make a strong comeback to win the season-long points run if he manages to win this weekend in Abu Dhabi while leader McIlroy settles for a disappointing result. It’ll be interesting to see if the LIV Golfer pulls a surprising result on Sunday.
