Gayle Benson delivers bad news for Saints fans on general manager Mickey Loomis

The New Orleans Saints have been in rebuilding mode for several years now, having not seen the postseason since the days of Drew Brees under center.

General manager Mickey Loomis has overseen the long-term rebuild and is currently in his 25th season with the franchise. At some point, when does the buck stop with him?

Fans are getting fed up with Loomis' propensity to kick the can down the road in terms of salary cap, and lack of progress on their franchise reset. But owner Gayle Benson seems to have all the faith in the world in her general manager.

Gayle Benson backs Mickey Loomis as Saints GM

"In an interview with Jeff Duncan, Benson stressed her belief and lack of interest in firing Loomis. It may not be what the fans want to hear, but as far as firing Mickey Loomis, that’s ridiculous," said Benson.

"He does a great job...When I am asked to hold Mickey Loomis accountable, I do. Not every decision works out, they never do...I hold him in high esteem, and I am very pleased with what he has accomplished, acquired and is building."

To be fair, Loomis has been a fairly successful general manager throughout his tenure in New Orleans.

Yes, the Saints have struggled in recent years, but their 208-164 win/loss record speaks for itself.

Loomis will have the opportunity to see this latest rebuild all the way through, and then his future in New Orleans will be fully decided.
