Trey Yesavage dealt a pitching masterclass at just 22 years of age in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday. The Toronto Blue Jays starter pitched 7.0 innings of one-run ball as they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 to take a 3-2 lead as the series heads back to Toronto.
After the game on Wednesday, Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. heaped praise on the Blue Jays rookie while relaying a special message for him.
"I told him I was so proud of him," Guerrero said. (1:20) "He's a human being. I love him. Every fifth day he comes to give it all he has in the mound, and he showed it today. He built for this."•

Yesavage was helped with a strong Blue Jays offense that took the game to Dodger starter Blake Snell right from the start. On the very first pitch, leadoff hitter Davis Schneider went yard before it was followed up by a home run by Guerrero, his eighth this postseason, tied for the most homers alongside Shohei Ohtani.
Ernie Clement hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth, while the Blue Jays piled on more runs in the seventh inning. Meanwhile, Yesavage's only blemish for a solo home run by Enrique Hernandez in the bottom of the third.
Making his MLB debut only in September, Yesavage has made more postseason starts than regular season appearances. In 5 starts, he has a 3-1 record with a 3.46 ERA.
Trey Yesavage's gives hilarious insight into fans claiming him to "being locked in"
While Trey Yesavage understands the magnitude of playing in a World Series, he has a modern approach to getting ready for his starts. The right-hander described his calm mindset, in an exclusive by ESPN's Jeff Passan, which mostly involved swiping through his phone.
"I saw something on Instagram that someone took a video of me on my phone saying I was locked in," Yesavage said via ESPN, "but I was just doomscrolling on TikTok and Instagram reels. I just keep it as chill as possible. I don't change anything I say to myself, but I'm also just here to go to work. I try not to think about anything."If the Dodgers can force a Game 7, Yesavage might be needed to throw in relief. Even though he enjoys the occasion, the 22-year-old would hope that his team finishes the job on Friday in Game 6.
