"I don't think he's THE guy": Tom Brady's ex-teammate doesn't mince words on Jaxson Dart amid Giants QB's regression

Jaxson Dart's New York Giants suffered a 16-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16 on Sunday. Giants quarterback Dart struggled as he went 7 of 13 for 33 yards with one interception while adding seven yards on two carries, as his team suffered its ninth straight loss.

Although Dart had a bright start since taking over as New York's QB1, the rookie has not been living up to expectations in recent weeks. Later on Sunday, former New England Patriots running back Damien Harris, who was teammates with the legendary Tom Brady, cast doubt on whether Dart can bring success to the Giants.

“I’m not sold that Jaxson Dart is the guy,” Harris said on "NFL on CBS." “When I watch him play, I just don’t think he’s the guy. Whenever he tries to extend plays and use his legs, he exposes himself to injuries, and we’ve already seen that. At some point, it’s not just about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting the franchise. “If you are the long-term answer, you are the most prized possession for the franchise as a starting QB, and if you can’t protect that, that’s a problem. Then, when Jaxson Dart stands in the pocket, he just doesn’t look like he did at Ole Miss … Part of that is he doesn’t have many receivers getting open, I understand that, but when you watch guys play, you can tell if they have it. I don’t see it with Jaxson Dart.”

Dart was sacked five times against the Vikings.

Although Dart has shown flashes of brilliance this season, his rookie year has been marred by injuries and inconsistency.

The Giants fired Brian Daboll from his coaching role in November after a 2-8 start to the season. However, Dart's performances have regressed since then. The QB's passing game has slumped, and he is also not making an impact with his running game, which appeared to be an X-factor when Daboll was with the Giants.

So far, Dart has recorded 1,835 passing yards and 13 touchdowns against five interceptions, while adding 407 rushing yards and seven TDs across 12 games.

Dart's Giants (2-13) will face the Las Vegas Raiders (2-13) in Week 17 of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday. The game is scheduled to commence at 4:05 p.m. ET from Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

While the Giants aim to snap their nine-game losing streak, the Raiders enter Week 17 having also lost each of their past nine games.
