Phil Mickelson sparked another controversy after backing a social media post that called for the arrest of California's Governor Gavin Newsom and several other political figures. The six-time major winner reacted to a list on X that suggested FBI Director Kash Patel should take action against several high-profile names.
An X user, Mila Joy, shared a post listing ten public figures she believed should be arrested, including Gavin Newsom, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Tim Walz, Hillary Clinton, and Anthony Fauci. She ended the post by asking:
“Who did I miss?”Mickelson responded to the post on Sunday, December 21, writing:
“There’s plenty more but this is a great start!”

Mickelson, who has publicly supported President Donald Trump, has frequently used social media to voice frustration with California’s leadership.
Last month, Mickelson also targeted Gavin Newsom over reports that the state scrapped a new 911 system after spending $450 million on the project. An X account, Libs of TikTok, described the system as a failed design and said taxpayers’ money had been wasted.
Mickelson reshared the post at the time, adding his own criticism of the governor and further highlighting his long-running opposition to Gavin Newsom’s leadership.
Phil Mickelson aims at Gavin Newsom over old debate remarks
In early November, Phil Mickelson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom following his comments on President Donald Trump. Newsom, who has often positioned himself as a key critic of President Trump, had addressed California voters’ support for Proposition 50, a measure to redraw congressional districts in the state.
During a press conference celebrating the measure’s approval, Newsom also took a jab at Trump, saying:
"I'm proud, but I'm very mindful and sober of the moment we are living in. Donald Trump does not believe in fair and free elections. Period. Full stop."On X, Mickelson called out one of Newsom’s lines, writing:
"Out of all delirious things he says, why does 'period. Full stop' bother me more than all of it?"Phil Mickelson has a history of publicly expressing his political opinions and has frequently clashed with Gavin Newsom over their opposing views.
Mickelson called the US President a ‘true American hero’ and said that he deserved the ‘utmost respect.’ While Mickelson may be spending less time on the golf course, his political commentary on social media continues to draw attention.
