Former Lakers guard Russell Westbrook makes basketball history never done by NBA guard

Russell Westbrook was nearly forced into retirement this past offseason.

The 37-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers guard struggled mightily to find a new home after spending the 2024-25 season with the Denver Nuggets

Fortunately, for his sake, he inked a deal with the Sacramento Kings before opening night. Westbrook, while no longer a dominant force, has been an impactful role player for the Kings.

The UCLA product is coming off an impressive 21-point (five made threes) and 13-rebound performance against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, a performance that helped him make history never done by an NBA guard.

“Russell Westbrook becomes the oldest guard in NBA history to record: 20+ points, 10+ rebounds,  5+ three-point makes,” Real Sports stated on X/Twitter.

While Westbrook wasn’t a great fit with the Lakers in the early 2020s, it’s nice to see the future Hall of Famer prove that, despite his advanced age, he’s far from an ineffective contributor.

From routinely attacking the rim with aggression to continuing to show why he’s the best rebounding guard ever, Westbrook undoubtedly does more harm than good on the hardwood.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder superstar is averaging 14.0 points, 7.3 assists, and 6.9 rebounds per game in 29 games with the Kings this season, shooting 42.8% from the field and 35.1% from beyond the arc.

Needless to say, Westbrook still has plenty of juice left in the tank.
