Huge new storyline starts during Tama Tonga segment on SmackDown

Tama Tonga is in an interesting position as he was previously teased as a US Title opponent to Ilja Dragunov when he was the Champion. Now that doesn't seem to be the case, but an interesting new storyline was teased.

Tama Tonga has been in an interesting position, but for now, he is occupied with the MFT's war against The Wyatt Sicks. It has been teased for quite a while now, and it finally happened with an indecisive finish at the end of 2025. However, it looks like something else could also be in the works for him outside of the MFT.

Tama had an interaction with former US Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, who conversed with him in Japanese. Via a Twitter User, the translation of the interaction seemed to look like this:

Shinsuke Nakamura: Tama. If you are aiming for the championship, we will cross paths again somewhere.”

Tama Tonga: "Shut up... you bas***d!”

Shinsuke Nakamura: "You have quite the mouth on you, don't you?"

When Solo Sikoa asked him what that was about, he simply responded by dismissing it and stating that it was a part of an old chapter - referencing their days together in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

It looks like this is the start of a brand new storyline for Tama. It will be interesting to see if he eventually splits from the MFT and Solo Sikoa, with whom he has been associated since his debut on the SmackDown after WrestleMania 40.

It has been nearly two years now, and many would agree that it's time for him to move on to a different chapter of his career. Tama has been one of the more interesting figures who WWE has kept relatively on the side with little in the way of character development.
