Luminous Oil is a fairly useful currency in Final Fantasy XIV, in that it’s used to acquire a few items found in the Pilgrim’s Traverse Deep Dungeon. Thankfully, this is a currency you won’t have to farm forever, because it’s only for two things. Those two things are cute and worth having in your collection, but the game doesn’t necessarily make it super clear how you’re supposed to get 99 of these, just for a hairstyle.
The downside is that while you can kind of farm Luminous Oil in Final Fantasy XIV, it’s probably going to take a while. Here’s what we know about farming Luminous Oil in FFXIV, as of patch 7.3.
How to acquire Luminous Oil easily in Final Fantasy XIV
Luminous Oil is a currency in Final Fantasy XIV that is used to acquire two items, and can be found connected to Pilgrim’s Traverse. Simply unlocking Pilgrim’s Traverse in the first place will reward you with 1x Luminous Oil.
You can't even begin getting Luminous Oil until you unlock Pilgrim's Traverse (Image via Square Enix)It’s one of the rewards for completing the unlock quest, Pilgrimage of Light, which begins at The Crystarium if you’re at least level 91 on a combat job and have completed Floor 50 of Palace of the Dead. If you meet those, head to 10.3, 10.7 in The Crystarium and speak to the Bright-eyed Child.
However, one just isn’t enough. There are two items that can be bought with Luminous Oil in Final Fantasy XIV:
- Sin Beaver (Minion): 25 Luminous Oil
- Modern Aesthetics - Simple and Clean (Hairstyle): 99 Luminous Oil
As far as farming Luminous Oil goes in FFXIV, you’ve got a few options. The easiest way is to complete your Weekly Challenge Log for Deep Dungeon. All you have to do is complete Floors 20, 50, and 100 each week. The downside to that of course, is that you have to wait a week to do it again.
However, completing floor 100 can also reward you with Ilumed Invocations, which you can trade 2 for a Luminous Oil, by speaking to Ose Wyd at the Pilgrim’s Traverse entrance. We’ve also heard that some of the Sacks that drop in Pilgrim’s Traverse can drop Luminous Oil, but personally, I’ve not seen it happen.
Do your weekly Challenge Logs to get more Luminous Oil easily (Image via Square Enix)Frankly, the best way to go about farming it, as far as your time goes, is to complete at least 20, 50, and 100 each week, and claim the Challenge Log rewards.
The upside is that if you want to sell the hairstyle that costs 99 Luminous Oil, it sells for incredibly high amounts of gil (~23M Gil on Diabolos). The good news is, if you just want the Sin Beaver Minion, it won’t take very long to get the proper amount of Luminous Oil. It’s worth it to grind Deep Dungeon because you can also get the gorgeous Stained Glass Weapons there.
