Anne Hathaway was the latest celebrity to be arrested at Sabrina Carpenter's ongoing "Short n' Sweet Tour." For the uninitiated, Carpenter "arrests" someone in a recurring segment during her shows before performing her hit song Juno.

During her October 26 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Hathaway caught Carpenter's eyes as the singer scanned the crowd to "arrest" someone. The Espresso singer pretended not to recognize the actress and asked her name and where she was from.

Hathaway replied that she was from Genovia, a nod to her popular movie franchise The Princess Diaries, where she portrayed Mia Thermopolis, the princess of the fictional country of Genovia. Carpenter then "arrested" The Devil Wears Prada star for being "the most perfect princess in the world," offering her a pair of fuzzy pink handcuffs.

"I just don’t know what to do when I see a face like that in the crowd...Has anyone ever told you, you look like a princess? I'm in the presence of a princess, I'm getting so flustered... Anne, can I arrest you for being the most perfect princess in the world?" Carpenter said.

Sabrina Carpenter's interaction with Anne Hathaway was met with excited responses from netizens on X. One user hoped the incident was related to The Devil Wears Prada's long-awaited sequel.

"I hope this was for Devil Wears Prada 2!"

Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Meryl Streep reprise their roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2

The original cast of The Devil Wears Prada, including Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci, will reprise their roles in the sequel, scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, nearly two decades after the original film was released in June 2006.

The 2006 movie is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, which is believed to be inspired by her time as an assistant to Anna Wintour, Vogue's former editor-in-chief. The story followed Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway), who came to work under Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine Runway.

According to Variety, the upcoming sequel's plot has not been disclosed as of this article. While Weisberger published a sequel to her original book, titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, in 2013, it is unclear whether The Devil Wears Prada 2 will follow the book's plotline.

However, in an exclusive report on July 8, 2025, Variety noted that The Devil Wears Prada 2 will focus on Miranda Priestly's career amid the "decline of traditional magazine publishing." She reportedly faces off against her former assistant Emily Charlton (played by Emily Blunt), who is now "a high-powered executive for a luxury group, with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.” It is unclear how Anne Hathaway's character fits into the plotline.

Meanwhile, Tracie Thoms, who played Andy Sachs' best friend Lily in the original movie, and Tibor Feldman, who played the chairman of Runway’s parent company, Elias-Clark, will reprise their roles. Other new additions to the cast include Lucy Liu, BJ Novak, Lady Gaga, Pauline Chalamet, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, and Justin Theroux.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is helmed by David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, the original film's director and writer, respectively.
