Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has praised Australia batter Travis Head following his match-winning hundred in the first Ashes 2025-26 Test in Perth. The game, which began on Friday, November 21, concluded on Day 2 (Saturday, November 22), with Head producing a stunning 123 off 83 balls, including 16 fours and four sixes. His masterful innings helped Australia chase down 205 in the fourth innings in just 28.2 overs, securing an eight-wicket victory.

After the match, speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin lauded Head for his spectacular century, noting that when the Australian is in full flow, no one wins more games than he does in the current era of cricket. Ashwin said:

“And I feel that when Travis Head gets on a roll, right, he wins too many games than anybody else in the current day and age of cricket. When Travis Head is in the zone and he gets going, it’s the maximum number of matches going around in world cricket right now. And that is quite a star achievement. And I really hope, from the side of an Indian cricket fan and an Indian cricket well-wisher, and obviously I don’t want Australia winning a lot, I really hope Australia doesn’t go the route of making Travis Head the captain at some stage.”

The former Indian cricketer also suggested that if Head were to become Australia’s captain at some point, he could achieve great things, as he possesses strong leadership qualities. The 39-year-old said:

“If he becomes captain, I don’t know what all he will go on to achieve. I’m saying he’s got all the requisite leadership qualities, and as a batting inspirational, he can really take a team along. I hope, I mean maybe he could be a captain of a franchise before captaincy in Australia. Let’s see, hope and watch,” he added.

Head has played 61 Tests so far, scoring 4,107 runs at an average of 42.34, including 20 half-centuries and 10 centuries.

“He completely cooked it” - R Ashwin on Travis Head’s stunning hundred in 1st Ashes Test

In the same video, Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about Travis Head’s 123-run innings and the remarkable shots he played, noting that in November, the left-hander tends to be in complete flow. Ashwin said:

“I feel that in November, during Movember in Australia, after keeping a moustache, he takes on a slightly different form. I feel that in November, Travis Head completely cooks. Today, he completely cooked it, there’s no doubt. He played two or three shots, I posted a tweet, and he moved completely away from the stumps, with the distance from his front foot to the ball being at least a kilometer. From there, he hit it. Look at how he rattled them. He moved away, swung, didn’t connect fully with the bat, and the ball completely missed the set of stumps and went under the leg stump. Look at how it moved, look at how he hit it, and the bowler was completely rattled.” “Today, he came in and played that pickup shot off Mark Wood. To me, that was the shot of the day because it was a bit early in the innings, and I expected Mark Wood to go at him. But he chipped it inside, and because the fine leg behind is small and the front boundary is small while the side is big, he came inside and picked it up. You know that’s the best place to hit a six. And then, obviously, he played two or three more shots,” he added.

Across formats, Head has played 187 matches, scoring 8,311 runs at an average of 40.14, including 42 half-centuries and 17 centuries.
