The Cleveland Guardians are not big spenders by any means this offseason, or any offseason. But that doesn't mean that they won't spend at all.
While they've not landed a top free agent target this offseason, they did make an over $100 million commitment to a superstar. Specifically, Jose Ramirez got some big news on his current contract.
According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Guardians and Ramirez are in agreement on a massive $175 million extension over the next seven years. Ramirez isn't leaving Cleveland anytime soon.
Guardians extend Jose Ramirez for $175M over 7 years
"Cleveland Guardians All-Star 3B Jose Ramirez signs restructured new 7-year, $175 million contract extension, per @hgomez27," Nightengale reports. "The deal adds four years and $106 million to his existing deal, keeping him in Cleveland through 2032."
This extension for Ramirez is an incredible one for the fans, the Guardians, and for Ramirez. He's staying in Cleveland for a while longer and is looking like he'll finish his playing days all with the Guardians.
Ramirez is one of the more underrated players in Major League Baseball, as the seven-time All-Star hasn't won an MVP award before, though he's finished top-5 six times in his career, including a runner-up in 2020.

This new deal adds $106 million to his current contract and adds an extra four years as well. The 33-year-old infielder isn't going anywhere and will be around through the 2032 season.
If he wasn't already beloved in Cleveland, this extension, which is cheap compared to what he produces on the field, should further help his case.
Ramirez is now signed through 2032, and on a $25 million per-year deal at that. He's on track to be a Hall of Famer, and if he can continue producing through these next seven seasons, he'd be a lock for the Hall of Fame once he retires.
