The investigation is being handled by the University of Alabama Police Department.

Authorities had not released details about the circumstances of Kirkpatrick’s arrest.

“We are aware of an incident involving Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. and are working to gather more details at this time,” a University of Alabama athletics spokesperson told the outlet.

Kirkpatrick Jr. is the son of former Alabama standout and All-American Dre Kirkpatrick Sr., who played for the Crimson Tide under legendary college football coach Nick Saban from 2009 to 2011.

The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Kirkpatrick Sr., now 36, with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He was released by the Bengals in 2020 after eight seasons and later signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

Kirkpatrick Sr. then signed with the San Francisco 49ers but was released in November 2021.

The NFL veteran and former Crimson Tide alumn followed in his footsteps when he joined Alabama’s program last year.

Kirkpatrick Jr. played in 13 games last year and suited up for all eight games this season, according to the school’s website.

Kirkpatrick Jr. has notched nine tackles, a tackle for loss, and one forced fumble this season.

Alabama sits at 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the SEC, second in the conference.

The Crimson Tide is set to host LSU next weekend as it seeks its eighth victory and sixth in the SEC.
