Former NBA Sixth Man of the Year suggests another Thunder star to be Wemby's rival

On Christmas Day, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs handed the Oklahoma City Thunder their fifth loss of the season and their third win over the defending champions.

When both of these teams are against each other, the biggest matchup, literally and figuratively, that fans anticipate is Wembanyama taking on fellow seven-foot center Chet Holmgren.

Lately, the French superstar has gotten the best of Holmgren multiple times and is by far the better player among the two, which is a big reason why the Spurs have had the Thunder's number this season. Still, former three-time Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams, believes Wemby should be considered a rival of another Thunder star.

That star would be reigning regular-season and Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has become the best player on the team and one of the league's new faces.

"There's levels to this conversation. The real rivalry is gonna be SGA and Wemby. Those are the MVP candidates. Why would a MVP candidate have a rivalry with a guy who's not in that conversation?", Williams said on the FanDuel flagship NBA show, 'Run It Back.'

Williams further supported his point, stating that he feels Wembanyama has "graduated" from the debate about him and Holmgren, and it's hard to disagree.

Wembanyama is averaging a double-double with 23.9 points and 11.5 rebounds, while also swatting shots, averaging 3.1 blocks per game in his third season, taking that next step in his game that many predicted he would, and leading the team to second place in the Western Conference currently, as San Antonio has fans and experts around the league believing the team are title contenders.
