The Exeter Chiefs were able to put on an impressive performance once again at Sandy Park, as they beat Gloucester 39 - 12.
Exeter Chiefs vs Gloucester match report
The Chiefs came out hot from the get-go, adding their first points to the scoreboard after just four minutes as Joseph Dweba barrelled over the line to give the hosts an early 7 - 0 lead.
However, visiting Gloucester were more than up to the challenge and quickly responded with a try via Will Joseph to level the playing field.
Exeter weren’t deterred though, and re-established their lead with tries from Henry Slade and Feyi-Waboso - all within the first twenty minutes as the Chiefs made a strong statement that they were not to be underestimated.
Although Gloucester was able to sneak in another try before half time, the conversion went awry, and the Chiefs were able to mitigate any reduction in their points difference as Slade bagged an extra six points with two penalty kicks.
Henry Slade's impressive performance
Gloucester upped the pressure as the second half got underway, dominating possession and keeping the host dangerously within their half, but they were just unable to convert this aggression into any tangible points.
Exeter was able to turn the tides back in their favour courtesy of Slade, who demonstrated his innate feel of the rugby pitch with an inspired grubber to outwit the Gloucester defence and seal his second try of the match.
These extra seven points officially took the centre’s total points scored for the Exeter Chiefs to over 1000, as well as further cementing the Chief’s imminent victory over their west country visitors.
A closing try from replacement Jack Yeandle, converted by Josh Hodge after Slade left the field to a standing ovation from Sandy Park, closed out the 80 minutes that was almost effortlessly dominated by Exeter as they continue to be unbeaten on home soil.
