The New York Jets are in dire need of their quarterback of the future.
It appears that for now, Geno Smith is the QB of the present. But he won't be leading the franchise into any bold and bright new eras.
Nope, the Jets still have to find that guy. This year's NFL Draft isn't necessarily the place to do that, at least at first glance.
The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to pick Indiana's Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick. After that, Alabama's Ty Simpson will go off the board at some point, maybe in the first round, but opinions are torn on him, and he's probably not worth the reach for the Jets.
That leaves the Jets potentially looking for QBs in the later rounds, and if that's the path, there is one name they probably should consider: Drew Allar.

Allar was the quarterback at Penn State, although he missed the end of the 2025 season with injury.
He entered the 2025 campaign viewed as a surefire first-round pick, but he won't cost that anymore.
"If the Jets opt to wait until Day 2 to select a quarterback, the traits of Allar are intriguing," ESPN's Matt Miller wrote in a new article on Thursday. "The 6-foot-5, 228-pounder has the biggest arm in this draft class and plus mobility. An ankle injury derailed his final college season, but Allar's potential is high if he's developed."
One positive for the Jets drafting Allar would be that he wouldn't have to play right away. He could learn behind Smith, who has seen all there is to see in the NFL.
Allar isn't a guaranteed success, but he's got enough of the traits that can make you believe.
If the Jets are going to try a QB in this draft class, Allar definitely seems like a worthy attempt.
