Dwight Howard has been making a name for himself as an outspoken netizen. At the start of this week, Howard ignited a debate with a proposal that he put forward on social media.
On Sunday, the former Orlando Magic center shared an idea that he had concerning military service. Howard went so far as to say that US President Donald Trump should consider implementing this measure.
"Random. I honestly feel like the president should make one year of service mandatory for everyone born in America. A lot of other countries do it," Howard tweeted.•

Howard, who played in the NBA from 2004 to 2022, also cited the rationale behind this proposal.

Howard's proposal drew a variety of reactions from other online users. Some liked the idea of having citizens undergo military training.
"Affirm, give boys & girls 3 months boot camp, survival training, military 101, and give them basic jobs," one online user commented.yAffirm, give boys & girls 3 months boot camp, survival training, military 101, and give them basic jobs.
Other netizens, however, weren't so thrilled with Howard's suggestion.
"Other countries do it for security reasons or they need the manpower. Either they face constant threats of attack or they’re small and can’t field a military with only volunteers, We have neither," one netizen pointed out. "No country on Earth forces military service to just 'build discipline.'"Other countries do it for security reasons or they need the manpower. There were also some netizens who directly asked Howard if he had ever rendered military service. It's likely, though, that Howard knew how frenzied the reactions would be when he posted his proposal.
"You got 5 secs to delete this": Dwight Howard reacts to fan who posted strong opinion on Magic Johnson and Bill Russell
Howard, of course, is better known for his exploits on the basketball court. As fan of the sport, he clapped back at a fan who posted a strong opinion on two all-time greats.
Last week, one netizen claimed that Magic Johnson and Bill Russell were not top-10 players in NBA history. In response, Howard delivered a scathing rebuke.
"You got 5 secs to delete this," he tweeted.Though Howard infamously had a beef with Lakers legend Shaquille O'Neal (a beef that has since been squashed), there's no denying that he has a profound respect for the pioneers that paved the way.
