AEW President Tony Khan discussed fulfilling a major fan wish. The Jacksonville-based promotion has a great roster. While many male stars are popular, the promotion has also focused on pushing the women's division in the past couple of years. They recently introduced the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship. The Babes of Wrath defended it on the Worlds End pay-per-view.
While Tony Khan usually tends to fulfil the fans' demands sooner or later, he hasn't been able to complete one demand: women main-eventing a pay-per-view. Many fans believe Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm could have main-evented All In: Texas earlier this year as the two of the biggest female stars of the promotion collided that night.
While speaking on The Takedown, the AEW President claimed that women main-eventing is possible and will happen in the right situation. He also noted that the Mercedes-Toni match was a main event-calibre match.
“It’s very potentially possible. It has to be the right match, the right situation, at the right time. If there were ever two that could do it, it would be the two you mentioned (referring to Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm). But there’s a bunch of other candidates for it as well. It was a fantastic match. They had it All In: Texas. That was a main-event-caliber match. It really felt that way. It was presented as one of the main matches on the card," he said.Tony Khan talks about the newest AEW signings
Hyan and Maya World have been part of AEW TV for the past few months. Despite losing more often, they made a name for themselves. After their performance at Worlds End, Tony announced that the tag team is All Elite.
While speaking at the Worlds End media scrum, Tony Khan claimed that Maya and Hyan proved their worth and are respected among their peers.
“I think they’ve been doing a fantastic job. Hyan and Maya World came in and delivered time after time. They’ve been more competitive and have put on great matches. Everyone in the locker room respects them. They bring something great to the roster," he said.It will be interesting to see which female stars will get to headline an AEW pay-per-view.
