Team India star Shubman Gill was spotted at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, after being dropped from the T20 World Cup squad. The squad was announced on Saturday, December 20.
Shockingly, Shubman Gill was not only removed as vice-captain but was also left out of the squad for the New Zealand series and the upcoming T20 World Cup. Days after the announcement, the team India star was seen checking in at the Mumbai airport.
India's Test and ODI skipper served a dashing look. He was dressed in a plain black t-shirt and off-white pants with a watch, shoes, and shades on.

Gill was part of the Indian team in the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. He scored just 32 runs from three matches and was rested for the last two games, citing a niggle in his right foot.
"Shubman Gill sustained an impact injury to his right foot while batting in the nets on December 16 in Lucknow. After consulting a specialist and receiving treatment from the BCCI medical team, he is improving," a statement from the BCCI read. (via Cricbuzz)He has been named in Punjab's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26 and will later join the national team for the New Zealand ODIs.
Shubman Gill's poor T20I form led to his exclusion from India's T20 World Cup squad
Shubman Gill returned to the T20I set-up during the Asia Cup in 2025. He scored just 127 runs in seven matches at an average of 21.16 and a strike rate of 151.19.
The Men in Blue then played a five-match T20I series against Australia Down Under. Gill made 132 runs from five games at an average of 44.00 and a strike rate of 136.08. He did not have a great series against South Africa either.
Since his return, he made just 291 runs from 15 innings in T20Is at an average of 24.25 without scoring a single half-century. With the 2026 T20 World Cup soon approaching, Gill's repeated failures had become a key area of concern.
Therefore, a tough call had to be taken, and a bold decision to drop him was taken by the selectors and the team management.
