Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja got rid of South Africa opener Aiden Markram on Day 2 (Saturday) of the ongoing Test series opener at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The left-arm spinner struck on his second ball of the innings, claiming a crucial scalp.

South Africa's second innings kicked off on Day 2. Markram scored four runs off 23 deliveries before perishing to Jadeja. The dismissal came in the ninth over. The ace batter lost his wicket while attempting to play the sweep shot off a full-length ball.

The ball took the toe end of the bat, and Dhruv Jurel plucked out a sharp catch at short leg to end Markram's stay at the crease. You can watch the video of the wicket below:

Both the South African openers were back in the pavilion early in their second innings. Ryan Rickelton was the first one to depart, falling LBW to Kuldeep Yadav after an 11-run knock from 23 deliveries.

With Ravindra Jadeja removing Aiden Markram soon after, the onus is now on South Africa's middle order to steady the ship. At the time of writing, the visitors were 38/2 after 15 overs, leading India by eight runs.

After electing to bat first, South Africa were bundled out for 159 on the opening day. Star speedster Jasprit Bumrah shone with the ball for the hosts, picking up a stunning five-wicket haul.

The Indian batters struggled to register a big total on the challenging pitch. Opener KL Rahul was the top run-scorer in the essay, with a patient 39-run knock in 119 deliveries.

Batting at No. 3, Washington Sundar contributed 29 runs from 82 balls. Rishabh Pant (24 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (45 balls) also chipped in with crucial runs, scoring 27 runs each.

The hosts were ultimately bowled out for 189. Off spinner Simon Harmer was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with four wickets, while left-arm pacer Marco Jansen took three wickets.
