PGAT winner turned analyst Smylie Kaufman mentioned Justin Thomas' latest injury was inevitable. Golfers often get injured during their careers, and the most common example is Tiger Woods, who has had multiple injuries and surgeries throughout his career.
However, Thomas, who never had a surgery, had a microdiscectomy in 2025 performed in New York. It was to help his disc problem, causing hip pain. Recently, Smylie Kaufman made a post on X, mentioning how an injury update is inevitable for an athlete. He wrote:
“Play this game long enough it’s inevitable something pops up. JT has done an incredible job to this point in career staying injury free and keeping the body healthy. Very happy to hear the surgery was successful and I know it won’t be long until he is back firing away.”Play this game long enough it’s inevitable something pops up. Justin Thomas shares a life update after his recent surgery
Justin Thomas took to his X handle to talk about the recent surgery he had. Thomas’ worsening symptoms because of hip pain made him undergo special surgery, and following that, he shared his life update. His words were:
“Life update - I’ve had some nagging hip pain for a handful of months and after some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated. I had a successful microdiscectomy performed yesterday at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY and have already been released from the hospital. I’m so grateful to the doctors and staff there for all their hard work and support. He elaborated on the fact that he would be in rehabilitation for some time. He added that his team would help him improve for the time being. He further continued:
“Before you ask, I’m not putting any tournament on the calendar or specific time for returning. While I will miss some events in the beginning of 2026, I want to be very smart and patient in letting my disc fully heal so it isn’t an issue again. I’m very lucky that the game of golf allows us to play at a high level for a long time, and that’s what I plan on doing - this procedure will allow me to do that injury free in the future. Can’t wait to see y’all back out there."Life update - I’ve had some nagging hip pain for a handful of months and after some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated.
