A controversial former WWE star has been surprisingly compared to CM Punk. During his career, the Second City Saint has had his fair share of ups and downs in the business. He walked out of WWE in 2014 and was vocal about his treatment by the company.
However, since his return to the promotion in 2023, he has been less of a combative figure and more of a mentor. Surprisingly, longtime WWE executive Bruce Prichard compared ex-WWE star Matt Riddle's personality with Punk's.
Speaking on Something to Wrestle, Prichard was asked whether he had frustrations working with any talent in any promotion. He brought up Riddle and said he had to talk to him to understand him.
"Matt (Riddle) was one of those guys, too, that I think people didn't really understand. I sat at the pool one night with Matt and drank a bunch of beers and just talked to him and kind of figured out," he said.Prichard said he compared Riddle to Punk, as both of them were misunderstood.
"I compared him a lot to CM Punk as far as being misunderstood and people not really getting who the hell Matt Riddle was. I didn't get the bro thing, and talking to him, I got it. But you have to spend time. It takes time to do that," he added.During his time in WWE, Riddle became the United States champion and even held the Tag Team title with Randy Orton as part of RK-Bro. However, his tenure was marred with failed drug tests and other controversies, leading to his release in September 2023.
Matt Riddle has been beefing with CM Punk
Matt Riddle has made no secret of his dislike for CM Punk in his interviews. He has been vocal about the WWE World Champion's attitude and behavior.
In an interview with Going Ringside, he said he wasn't a fan of Punk and claimed he was a "b*tch" to work with. He also mentioned that the veteran star wasn't good at fighting.
In a separate conversation with TMZ Sports, Riddle said that Punk's better wrestling days are behind him.
