Manchester City fans have slammed Phil Foden after their 2-1 loss to Newcastle United in the Premier League. Many believe that the Englishman cost them the match, and have called for Pep Guardiola to drop him.

Harvey Barnes missed a great chance in the first half, but made up for his mistake just after the hour mark. However, it did not take long for Manchester City to equalize, with Ruben Dias finding the back of the net within three minutes.

Newcastle United took the lead once again with Barnes making it a brace against the Cityzens. They managed to hold on to the lead and walk away with all three points.

Following the match, Manchester City fans were quick to point the finger at Foden for his performance, claiming it was the key reason for the post. Many posted:

Pep Guardiola spoke about the match after the full-time whistle and told NBC Sports:

“Tight game, chances, entertaining game. At the end they scored two goals. We had one. It was a really good performance in general. We had chances. Second half unfortunately we could not finish. It’s good, keep going, We know that. I know his intensity and high-pressing is good. His physicality in the middle is really strong and unfortunately in the moment, duels, because they provoked this type of game.”

Talking about the brawl after the game, Guardiola added:

“I had said how good he is and the situation with Gigio what happened. But everything is fine. Newcastle is a top side, top players, top manager so no doubt about that. Unfortunately we could not keep momentum that we had before the international break. They made the pressing tough but I would say the best moments we had were in the second half and then we conceded a goal.”

Manchester City failed to close the gap on leaders Arsenal, who remain four points clear with the Gunners having a game in hand. Mikel Arteta's side face Tottenham in the North London Derby on Sunday, November 23.

Manchester City star Ruben Dias admitted that it was a tough match for both teams. He heaped praise on Newcastle United after the 2-1 loss and told NBC Sports:

“It was difficult in all ways for both teams. It was a very intense game. I feel like we had loads of chances and in the end we didn’t score. We have to do better. And they scored on their two chances. We have to be better. You come in away Newcastle. Everyone knows how strong they are at home. It’s also the first game after an international break. It’s always difficult.”
