There’s just no telling what the San Francisco 49ers should or might do when it comes to Brandon Aiyuk. Amid all of the rumors, it doesn’t sound like the 49ers plan to do him any solids, and it’s tough to blame them.
Rumors continue to surround Aiyuk, and some believe the Cleveland Browns could be a team to watch. Chris Wassel of Sports Illustrated thinks Cleveland may make sense as a potential landing spot when the wide receiver becomes available.
Wassel noted that the Browns and Aiyuk have been linked in rumors before, suggesting at least some interest between the two sides.
“The Cleveland Browns have been linked to Aiyuk for two years now,” Wassel wrote.
Cleveland has taken chances on players in recent years, sometimes looking to revive careers or add talent in situations that come with risk. Wassel thinks the Deshaun Watson situation could be similar, though there are obvious differences.
“Obviously, the Browns have been well known for reclamation projects that have not gone so well. See Deshaun Watson as to what can and what else can go wrong.”
“However, Cleveland and Aiyuk could be a solid fit. If Aiyuk gets recommitted to the craft and indeed ends up 100% healthy or close, the Browns could reap some nice benefits.”
If the Browns decide to pursue the move, adding a player like Aiyuk would give the offense a nice option in the passing game and help whichever quarterback they decide to go with.
