We’re down to the final four of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
The pretenders have been sent home, the Cinderella stories have struck midnight, and only the heavyweights remain. In just a few days, a new world champion will be crowned, but first, these four nations must survive the most intense 18 innings of their lives. The bracket is set, the stars are aligned, and the world is officially watching.
The first semifinal will be on Sunday night between the United States and the Dominican Republic, two of the World Baseball Classic heavyweights.
If the Americans are to reach their third consecutive title game, they’ll have to do it by going through a "Plátano Power" roster that looks more like an All-Star squad than a national team. The task of silencing those bats falls to Paul Skenes, the hard-throwing right-hander who has become the face of a revamped U.S. pitching staff. Skenes, fresh off a dominant 2025 Cy Young campaign, brings his 102-mph heater into a collision course with a Dominican lineup that possesses no easy outs.
The heart of the order is a nightmare for any pitcher. Juan Soto’s discipline and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s raw power are enough to keep any manager up at night, but when you add the flair of Fernando Tatis Jr. and the veteran poise of Manny Machado, the Dominican Republic boasts arguably the most terrifying offense in the history of the tournament.
But Team USA isn't exactly short on firepower. Led by captain Aaron Judge, the Stars and Stripes counter with a middle-of-the-order that features Bryce Harper and Bobby Witt Jr. — a combination of MVPs and generational talents designed to match the DR’s scoring pace blow-for-blow.
With a birth in the finals on the line, one of these baseball powerhouses will take a massive step closer in Miami. The other will see its dream fall up short.
