The Dallas Cowboys have been searching for linebacker help to start the offseason, but have come up short thus far.
If the six-time Super Bowl champions want to get creative, a recent rumor suggests they could consider trading for a 6-foot-5 national champion LB in the upcoming NFL Draft.
“It’s been a tough week for the Cowboys at the linebacker position, simply put,” Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris wrote Friday. “With names such as Bobby Okereke, Bobby Wagner, and Lavonte David still on the board, the Cowboys seem to be shifting their focus to address the giant need that grows more concerning with each player who gets signed elsewhere.
“Whether that be the trade market or trading up for Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles in the draft, there will need to be a big move made to lock up that gaping hole.”
Styles declared for the 2026 NFL draft after an impressive four-year career with the Buckeyes, which included a national championship victory over Notre Dame in 2024-25.
With Styles’ eye-opening side-to-side speed, ability to contain running backs and tight ends in coverage, and knack for coming up with big-time tackles in the open field, it's easy to see why Harris believes the Cowboys could trade up in the draft for him.
Styles finished his Ohio State career with 132 solo tackles, 113 assisted tackles, nine penalties drawn, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception.
Is it far more likely to witness the Cowboys scour the current trade market for a versatile linebacker? Probably, but crazier things have happened within Dallas’ organization.
