The Buffalo Bills narrowly escaped Cleveland with a 23-20 win over the Browns in Week 16. The win gets them to 11-4 on the year, and on the brink of officially claiming a playoff spot.
When Buffalo does begin their postseason journey, they won't have to worry about Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs for the first time. The Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention after losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. On top of that, they lost Mahomes for the remainder of the year to a torn ACL. This led to Gardner Minshew starting against the Tennessee Titans, but he left the game with a knee injury of his own. This led to Chris Oladokun finishing out the 26-9 loss for the Chiefs. Now, the Chiefs are swiping a quarterback from the Bills' practice squad.
Per Adam Schefter, the Chiefs are signing Shane Buechele.
"With Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew injuring their knees in back-to-back weeks, the Chiefs are signing QB Shane Buechele off the Bills’ practice squad, per source," Schefter reports. "Buechele spent the 2021-‘22 seasons with the Chiefs. He needs to pass a physical, but he is headed to Kansas City."
Buechele has passed his physical and will be joining the Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Bills will face off with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 before closing out the season with the final regular season game in Highmark Stadium against the New York Jets.
