Cardinals' Carson Beck gets good news amid Jacoby Brissett contract holdout

The Arizona Cardinals and Jacoby Brissett are at an impasse.

The veteran quarterback wants a raise as he heads toward the 2026 NFL season as the presumed starter for the Cards.

If Brissett doesn't start, the Week 1 gig probably goes to another veteran, Gardner Minshew.

Waiting in the wings, though, is Carson Beck.

Beck is the former star from Georgia and then Miami, and the Cardinals took him with the first pick of the third round, No. 65 overall, in the 2026 NFL Draft.

He isn't necessarily the QB of the future in Arizona, but he's also got more potential NFL future left than Brissett or Minshew.

Because of that, Sports Illustrated national NFL writer Conor Orr predicts Beck will start the most games of any Cardinals QB this season.

"With Jacoby Brissett (rightfully) refusing to spend another season as a human meat shield without better compensation, seeing what the team has in Beck, a rookie third-round pick out of Miami, will quickly become more appetizing than a prolonged stint with Gardner Minshew II under center," Orr wrote as part of a new article on Thursday.

Beck never quite ascended to the positive NFL projections as some of his college contemporaries, but he won a lot of football games at two big programs and is believed to at least be a potentially quality NFL backup.

Whether Beck can start over the long haul is much less clear, but it's also something worthwhile for the Cardinals to figure out. They know who Brissett and Minshew are. There's a lot more unknown about Beck.

On the off chance he's got some special traits, it's worth the Cardinals playing him to find out before they have to decided whether to draft another QB next year.
