What happened to Ramon Laureano? Why Padres trade pickup landed on IL

1 hour ago 3

The San Diego Padres are heading into the series against the Philadelphia Phillies on the East Coast with a 32-26 record, second place in the NL West.

But, after being swept at home by the Phillies last week, the Padres are looking for some revenge. Unfortunately, that revenge is going to be a bit harder to come by with the latest Ramon Larueano news.

As the Padres announced on Tuesday afternoon, Laureano is going on the injured list due to a right hip injury that will keep him out for at least the next 10 days.

Why Padres placed Ramon Laureano on IL

"We have made the following roster moves: We have selected OF Jase Bowen from Triple-A El Paso, placed OF Ramon Laureano on the 10-day IL retroactive to 5/31 (right hip inflammation), and transferred RHP Nick Pivetta to the 60-day IL," the Padres announced.

This is a tough update for the Padres, as Laureano was one of their best players last season after being acquired at the trade deadline from the Baltimore Orioles.

Laureano hasn't been that incredible this season, posting a .203 batting average with 23 runs scored, 47 hits, six doubles, two triples, seven homers, 21 RBIs, and a .660 OPS.

While those might not be the best offensive numbers, they are better than Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, and Jackson Merrill. Also, Laureano's defense has helped make up for the lackluster offensive numbers.

But now the Padres are going to be without Laureano for some time, as he's landing on the 10-day injured list with right-hip inflammation.
