Brian Daboll must make one key decision for Giants while he still can

1 hour ago 2

The New York Giants were well on their way to a huge road win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. That was until starting quarterback Jaxson Dart had to leave the game with a concussion.

At the time of the injury, the Giants held a 17-7 lead with about five minutes to play in the third quarter and they were driving. It was literally all downhill from there.

Russell Wilson came on in relief of Dart and went 3-of-7 for 45 yards and he was sacked two times. But it wasn't just poor statistics from Wilson, it was the way the team looked while he was out there, the energy that was on the field. It seemed clear that he gave the team little to no chance to win.

If you were asking yourself why Jameis Winston isn't the No. 2 quarterback, you probably weren't alone.

That is the move that Brian Daboll needs to make, even if it is the last big decision he makes as head coach of the team. Some are calling for Daboll to be fired and the team's ownership may be listening. It is clear that, between the playcalling that is leading to Dart being in harm's way far too often and the pecking order of his quarterback position, Daboll is severely mishandling things.

It's over.

The Giants blew a 19-point lead in Denver three weeks ago, and now it's a 10-point lead in Chicago today.

It's getting increasingly hard to see how Brian Daboll survives with two inexcusable, late collapses like those. pic.twitter.com/7Y6XwlDbSh

It is unclear whether Dart will be able to play in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers — he'll have to first clear the league's concussion protocol — but either way, a change is necessary.

If Dart can't play, Winston should be named the starter for that game. If Dart is able to go, Winston should be named the backup. Wilson should be relegated to No. 3 status, where he would be inactive but listed as the team's emergency quarterback.

You can’t seriously tell me Russell Wilson gives you a better chance to win than Jameis Winston

Winston will give the team a much better chance to compete than Wilson does. Wilson's career is certainly in its twilight at this point and what he still has to offer seems minimal for any team, but it's next to nothing with this current Giants team.

Daboll may end up packing up his office soon, regardless, but this is a decision that must be made for the betterment of the team.
