Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage was perfect against the New York Yankees.
Entering Wednesday's rain-delayed matchup at Yankee Stadium, Yesavage faced 15 Yankees' batters during his two-year MLB career without surrendering a hit, collecting 10 strikeouts. His mastery of the Yankees continued.
Earning his eighth career start and first in the Bronx, Yesavage engaged in a pitching duel with Cam Schlittler. Both starters blanked the opposition through six innings Wednesday.
Since returning to the Blue Jays' rotation April 28, Yesavage's arm strength continues to improve. In his first four starts, he posted a 1.40 earned run average with 21 strikeouts. During last Friday's outing against the Detroit Tigers, he delivered a season-high 88 pitches -- until Wednesday.
When asked to describe the six-strikeout no-decision against the Tigers, Yesavage said it "wasn't great," as reported by Yahoo Sports. "Kind of sprayed the heater and bounced the splitter. The slider was really the only pitch I could rely on."
Against the Yankees on Wednesday, Yesavage relied on his full arsenal, striking out eight and yielding two hits through six innings. He struck out eight on 95 pitches.
In 35 combined at-bats against the 22-year-old rookie, the Yankees compiled just two hits.
