Game 2 between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs is where a big momentum swing happened. Coach Mark Daigneault benefitted off the mistakes made by Stephon Castle as both Dylan Harper and De'Aaron Fox were out. After their 122-113 win, a big concern remains to be whether they can push that advantage more with the immediate return of Jalen Williams from his injury.
Will they have him by Game 3?
Thunder, Daigneault drop intriguing Williams injury update
Jalen Williams is currently suffering from left hamstring tightness. Coach Mark Daigneault was able to put him on the court for a while in Game 2 but had to pull him out immediately due to the pain. There is still a lot of uncertainty about whether he can return in this series against the Spurs but the Thunder head coach did drop an update, via Underdog NBA.
"He'll get checked out in the morning. We’ll see where he's at. We’ll update accordingly," Coach Daigneault said.
Notably, this is the same injury that Williams suffered throughout the past few games in the Thunder's NBA Playoffs run. Coach Daigneault and the Thunder have to determine whether or not it would be best for him to play again in the Western Conference Finals while weighing in his long-term health.
Throughout the seven minutes that Williams got to play against the Spurs in Game 2, he was fairly productive. He scored four points on a 50% field goal percentage. Defensively, his production was also in high octane mode. By the end, he grabbed a rebound while also nabbing two steals to suck some momentum out of the Spurs offense.
Due to Williams' injury woes, Coach Daigneault has unleashed a committee so that the Thunder can patch up his numbers. Ajay Mitchell, Cason Wallace, Jared McCain, and Alex Caruso all played 25 minutes or more. Isaiah Joe also got 10 minutes of playing time as a form of rotational adjustment against the Spurs.
The Thunder have the luxury of depth in this tied NBA Playoffs series with the Spurs but a star like Williams is always needed on the floor during crucial moments.
