Bills free up cap space ahead of trade deadline, big move coming?

7 hours ago 2

The NFL trade deadline is less than 24 hours away, and several teams are rumored to be making moves before the 4:00 EST deadline to do so. One of those teams is the Buffalo Bills, who have been connected to several players, including New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave and Las Vegas Raiders wideout Jakobi Meyers.

"The Bills were one of the teams that inquired in recent weeks about Saints WR Chris Olave, sources say," Dianna Russini posted on X. "New Orleans is still expected to retain Olave, while Buffalo is making calls on other receivers, including Jakobi Meyers."

The only issue is that the Bills are strapped when it comes to money. Per OverTheCap, the Bills have the least amount of cap space in the NFL at just over $1.6 million. However, Buffalo appears to be getting set for a trade, as they've freed up some money. Per Field Yates, the Bills have restructured the contract of Taron Johnson.

"The Bills restructured the contract of CB Taron Johnson by converting base salary into a signing bonus, a move that created an extra $1.75M in salary cap space," Yates reports.

That move gets Buffalo up to roughly $3.4 million in cap space. Judging by the timing of the move, it is safe to assume they are doing so to try and make a potential trade work. We'll see if they are able to put anything together in the next 24 hours.
