Bills-Broncos trade proposal would beef up Buffalo's run defense

If there's one area the Buffalo Bills could still look to improve on the defensive side of the ball, it's the interior of their defensive line.

One of Buffalo's glaring weaknesses last season was its run defense, which ranked 28th in the NFL.

Adding to that, the three defensive lineman slated to get the most snaps around Ed Oliver in 2026,, T.J. Sanders, DeWayne Carter and Deone Walker, have struggled against the run during their respective careers.

As a result, it would not be shocking to see the Bills add a run-stuffer upfront.

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton proposes a trade for the Bills that would help. He suggests the Bills acquire Denver Broncos defensive lineman D.J. Jones.

"Although Jones only played 40 percent of the defensive snaps during the previous term, he logged 39 tackles (four for loss) and three sacks, missing just three tackles all year," Moton wrote.

"In Buffalo, Jones could play in an expanded role as the leader of a young interior group that shows a little more resistance against ground attacks."

Jones would be an ideal fit, and for multiple reasons.

Not only does he offer a bit of juice as an interior rusher, he can also boost the run defense after posting a 74.5 run defense grade last season, which ranked seventh among interior defensive linemen, per Pro Football Focus.

The problem with this suggestion is the Broncos have already taken a big hit upfront after John Franklin-Myers left for the Tennessee Titans.

Knowing that, it seems unlikely the Broncos would be willing to trade Jones away and further shorten their defensive line room.

If the Broncos are willing to deal Jones, the Bills should absolutely be interested. However, we just don't see it happening.
