At 4-3, the Chicago Bears find themselves in an identical position to their standing after their first seven contests last year, their first season with quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 pick out of USC. Then they lost their next nine games.

Now, Chicago is angling to make its first playoff appearance since 2020.

Could the Bears finally break through and make the postseason?

This year's Bears, under new head coach Ben Johnson, feel different. Johnson had previously served as the decorated offensive coordinator for NFC North division rival the Detroit Lions, and has been helping Williams make strides following an up-and-down debut season for the Monsters of the Midway.

Still, there are gaps to fill thanks to the injury bug, which has waylaid all three of their best cornerbacks in Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson.

Bill Barnwell of ESPN suggests that Chicago defensive coordinator look to compensate for the injuries to his cornerbacks by urging Bears general manager Ryan Poles to trade for Alontae Taylor or Isaac Yiadom, both of whom currently serve for his last franchise, the New Orleans Saints.

"Poles shouldn't be selling out to get a replacement, but I wonder if coordinator Dennis Allen would want to look up Alontae Taylor or Isaac Yiadom from his old stomping grounds in New Orleans as a short-term solution," Barnwell submits.
