Astros hire new assistant general manager amid offseason shakeup

The Houston Astros were quick to make changes when their season came to a close. After missing the postseason for the first time since 2016, the club parted ways with head athletic trainer Jeremiah Randall.

However, he was not the only one the club parted ways with. They also let go of hitting coaches Troy Snitker and Alex Cintron and assistant general manager Andrew Ball.

There is no denying that Houston has its work cut out for it over the offseason. They have quite a few holes to fill, both on the field and in the dugout.

One thing the Astros will no longer have to search for this offseason is a new assistant general manager. According to MLB insider Brian McTaggart, Houston has selected Connor Huff to replace Andrew Ball.

Huff will transition to his new role after serving as the club's vice president of business and baseball operations. He will work closely with Dana Brown to ensure there is a better product on he field for the 2026 season.

He will be undeniably busy this winter as the team is set to lose a key contributor over the years in Framber Valdez. The lefty is expected to lead the open market on the pitching side and could cost Houston a pretty penny for his return.

Brown and Ball also must figure out what they are going to do in terms of arbitration. They come into the offseason facing over $60 million for 16 players, and some of these players will have to be let go to free up some room financially.
