76ers fans get huge injury update on Jared McCain

The Philadelphia 76ers received encouraging news on Thursday, October 30th, as second-year guard Jared McCain was a full participant in the team’s practice.

Head coach Nick Nurse told reporters that McCain looked “pretty good” and that his conditioning was “in a good place,” though he declined to comment on when the 21-year-old might make his season debut.

McCain has been rehabbing from a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right thumb, an injury suffered during a workout in September 2025 that sidelined him for the start of the 2025–26 regular season. Encouragingly, he appears to be ahead of schedule — a welcome development for a 76ers team off to a 4–0 start.

The 21-year-old impressed during his rookie campaign, averaging 15.3 points per game on 46% shooting from the field and 38.2% from three-point range. Unfortunately, his season was cut short after just 23 games when he tore the lateral meniscus in his left knee in December 2024. McCain had been the early favorite for Rookie of the Year before the injury ended his season.

Philadelphia currently sits tied for the top seed in the Eastern Conference alongside the Chicago Bulls, led by the trio of Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and rookie VJ Edgecombe. A team once feared to be plagued by recurring injury issues has instead emerged as one of the league’s early success stories.

As McCain nears his return, Paul George is also expected to rejoin the lineup soon, setting up the 76ers to go from strong to even stronger in a matter of days.
