A multi-time world champion's contract with AEW is set to expire in a few hours. This will make them a free agent, where they could sign with WWE, or other major promotions.

For a few months now, Chris Jericho has been a major topic of conversation as there has been no information regarding his future with the Jacksonville-based promotion. It was reported that his contract was set to expire by midnight of December 31, and he has been linked to a potential return to WWE.

Now, it is the final day of 2025, and with the new year approaching in a few hours, this also means that the Nueve's AEW contract will expire as well. He will now be free to explore his options, and either negotiate a new contract with them, or sign with another company.

Chris Jericho could return to WWE RAW

Amidst this developing situation, there have already been reports regarding Chris Jericho's booking in the Stamford-based promotion, if he decides to sign with the company.

During a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that he had now heard plans from the promotion about Jericho, despite no confirmation regarding him signing with them. He addressed how he could technically debut during next week's episode of RAW, as he would be a free agent by then. He predicted that they would do this when many least expect it.

"I've heard plans from WWE for him but not that he was signed. That goes back months. He could be on Raw next Monday legally. There have been rumors of that. Knowing him, I think that he'd want to debut when people don't expect it." [H/T Wrestling Observer on X]

For fans of Chris Jericho who want to see him back in WWE, the wait is now over as in a few hours he will become a free agent. However, there is still a possibility that he ends up pulling off a major swerve, and despite all the speculation, re-signs with AEW, or signs with an unexpected company.
