In a recent article for the Ottawa Citizen, Bruce Garrioch reported that the New York Islanders are exploring Mathew Barzal’s trade market.
While that does not automatically mean that the Islanders will move Barzal this off-season, it certainly makes him a trade candidate to watch.
Due to this, let’s take a look at three teams that could make sense as landing spots for Barzal if the Islanders commit to trading him.
Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild could be a team to keep an eye on when it comes to Barzal this off-season. The Wild are in desperate need of help down the middle, and bringing in a star center like Barzal would provide them with just that.
If they acquired him, he would instantly be their new No. 1 center and could make some real magic playing on a line with superstar winger Kirill Kaprizov.

Philadelphia Flyers
While the Philadelphia Flyers are in the same division as the Islanders, they should still try to land Barzal. It is no secret that the Flyers’ biggest need right now is a true No. 1 center as they look to take another step forward.
Given this, it would make all the sense in the world for them to make a serious push for Barzal. Barzal could thrive centering Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras on Philadelphia’s first line if brought in.

Los Angeles Kings
With Anze Kopitar retiring, the Los Angeles Kings need another star center to replace him. While Barzal is not as dominant as Kopitar with his defensive play, he would still have the potential to be a fantastic addition to Los Angeles’ first line because of his elite playmaking ability. With the Kings desperately needing more offense, acquiring Barzal would be huge for them.
