Yankees' Luke Weaver receives $30 million contract projection from ESPN insider

Luke Weaver's time in the MLB has not been easy. Drafted as a starting pitcher, he struggled to maintain consistency over multiple innings, which made him bounce from team to team.

In 2023, he was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees. He made three starts to end the year, became a free agent, and returned to the Bronx.

However, over the past two seasons, he has been used in a different role. Instead of being looked at as a starting pitcher, the Yankees decided to move him into the bullpen and convert him into a reliever.

He has done well in his new role, stepping up at any time the Bronx Bombers called his name. Now with his newfound talents, he heads to the open market to secure his bag.

While he will not be a headlining name on the open market, Luke Weaver should acquire a ton of interest. There are plenty of teams looking to bolster their bullpen, but it could cost teams if they decide to move in on Weaver.

ESPN's Kiley McDaniel sees the hard-throwing righty getting a three-year, $30 million contract over the winter.

"Weaver came out of nowhere to transition from a mediocre starter to a dominating reliever in 2024. His fastball velocity slipped and his ERA jumped a bit in 2025, though his peripherals were pretty similar. I think Weaver's market should be at two or three years and at roughly $10 million a year."

With this projection, the Yankees will definitely be at play here. It would be ideal for them to re-sign one of the few relievers who made an impact for them this year.
