Luke Lessei believes his physical advantages and technical versatility will be the difference-makers when he comes up against one of the division's most feared strikers.

The American Muay Thai maestro faces fourth-ranked contender Nico Carrillo in a featherweight Muay Thai battle at ONE Fight Night 37 in Bangkok, Thailand. Their clash takes place live in U.S. primetime this Friday, Nov. 7.

In a pre-fight interview with ONE Championship, 'The Chef' broke down the specific advantages he believes he holds over 'King of the North' and why his approach to training keeps him focused despite the magnitude of the challenge.

"I'm just trying to focus on my training, really. Since I came out here, dude, I only focus on what I'm doing," Luke Lessei told the promotion.

Though Carrillo's wins in ONE Championship have come inside the distance with his devastating power, Lessei isn't intimidated by the hype surrounding the 27-year-old Glaswegian knockout machine.

"Obviously my physical reach. My reach and then I would just say, my versatility, my variety of strikes. I definitely feel comfortable throwing all eight limbs – not to say that he isn't, but I just feel like I have a little bit more of a variety within my strikes," the 29-year-old martial artist continued.

Indeed, his reach advantage combined with his comfort utilizing the full arsenal of 'The Art of Eight Limbs' gives him multiple paths to victory against an opponent known primarily for explosive finishing power.

Luke Lessei's tactical approach could neutralize Nico Carrillo's power

While Nico Carrillo brings devastating knockout ability and aggressive pressure that has overwhelmed almost every opponent he's faced in ONE Championship, Luke Lessei's game plan suggests he believes technical variety beats raw power.

The American striker's emphasis on his reach and versatility indicates he plans to use distance management and unpredictable striking combinations to keep the Scottish destroyer off balance.

Luke Lessei rides momentum from his first-round TKO of Canadian slugger Cody Jerome at ONE Fight Night 27 this past January, and his confidence in having "a little bit more" variety suggests he's studied Carrillo's knockout highlights and identified areas to exploit.

Carrillo may have his sights set on reigning ONE featherweight Muay Thai world champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai, and a dominant performance against Lessei would strengthen his case for a title shot. However, Lessei doesn't plan to make this one an easy fight for his opposite number when they lock horns this Friday, Nov. 7.
