The New York Yankees are looking to return to the World Series after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024. The pitching staff is starting to get healthy, with Gerrit Cole back from injury.
One Yankees player who is still working his way back is Jasson Domínguez. He suffered an injury after crashing into the outfield wall earlier in May.
“Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez is expected to miss a few weeks because of a left shoulder sprain after crashing into the wall Thursday,” ESPN’s Jorge Castillo wrote. “Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Domínguez will go on the injured list after spraining the AC joint in his left shoulder. He crashed into the video advertising board in left field at Yankee Stadium.”
The only downside to Domínguez’s eventual return is that there may not be an everyday role waiting for him in the outfield.
“The problem is that the rest of the outfield has not exactly left a clean opening. Trent Grisham has been turning things around after his knee scare and remains the best pure center-field fit. Cody Bellinger has been one of the Yankees’ cleanest wins, giving them power, contact, and defensive flexibility without the chaos that has hit other spots,” Empire Sports Media’s Alexander wrote.
If Domínguez becomes available at the trade deadline because of a lack of playing time, the Milwaukee Brewers should make a call about the young outfielder.
“The Yankees would be an interesting team to target because or outfieler Jasson Domínguez. New York's outfield is loaded with depth. Right now, Domínguez is on the Injured List. Domínguez didn't make the club out of camp this year because of the outfield depth. When healthy, Aaron Judge will be in right field, Trent Grisham will be in center field, and Cody Bellinger will be in left field. Somehow, the club has to get at-bats for Giancarlo Stanton when he's healthy and Spencer Jones is down in the minors as well,” SI’s Patrick McAvoy wrote.
Domínguez is still a talented player searching for an opportunity to become an everyday starter. At the moment, New York may not be the best place for him to get those consistent at-bats given the current outfield situation.
Domínguez has earned roughly $7 million during his career so far. A move to Milwaukee could provide him with the opportunity he is looking for. The Brewers currently sit atop the NL Central and are firmly in contention, making them a logical destination if the Yankees decide to move him.
