Courtney Williams and the Minnesota Lynx have had a terrific start to their 2025 WNBA regular season, winning all eight of their games so far. With such a flawless record, Williams showed no remorse in trolling DiJonai Carrington and the Dallas Wings, whose team remained at the bottom of the standings with a 1-8 record.
In a TikTok video, Williams asked Carrington who the team they have beaten so far in the season. She also asked if they have already defeated the Chicago Sky, who are currently 2-5 this season.
“Oh the Wings are 1-8. Who did you all beat?,” Williams asked Carrington. “But for real, who did you all really beat? Chicago? You all didn’t beat Chicago?,” she asked again. “Connecticut,” Carrington, who was drafted by the Sun in 2021, simply answered. The Wings scored their first win of the season against the Connecticut Sun on May 27 when Paige Bueckers led the team with 21 points.
They have not won a game since losing their fourth straight matchup last June 6 against the LA Sparks.
Carrington, one of the Wings’ biggest offseason additions, averages 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game so far this season. She won last year’s Most Improved Player award while still playing for the Sun.
Meanwhile, Courtney Williams has been impressive to start the year as she puts up averages of 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for the Lynx, whose team fell short in last year’s WNBA Finals against eventual champions New York Liberty.
Courtney Williams wants to use last year’s championship loss as motivation this year
Courtney Williams and the Minnesota Lynx’s WNBA Finals loss last year still stings. For the bruising guard, the pain of their defeat has been their main drive this year.
Talking after their win against the Wings on May 17, Williams expressed how the 2024 Finals loss has become their main motivation for this season as they embark on an undefeated start.
“That’s the main motivation. That’s the main motivation, man, we trying to go get us one. So honestly, that’s the main motivation and that’s the only motivation at this point,” she said.Aside from the Lynx, defending champions Liberty are also undefeated in eight games this season.
The two squads remain the favorites to duke it out for the title this season, unless any setbacks occur.
