The main event of WWE Money in the Bank 2025 ended as a shock for John Cena. The Franchise Player was attacked by a mysterious hooded figure who took out the 17-time World Champion with his title. Soon, it was revealed that the attacker was R-Truth.

The return of Truth received a thunderous reaction from the live crowd. His disruption helped Cody Rhodes connect the Cross Rhodes and pin Cena in the middle of the ring.

A few days ago, the legendary star announced that his WWE contract is set to expire and that the company will not be renewing it. As a result, he will be leaving the Stamford-based promotion.

In this article, we will discuss three reasons why the veteran returned to WWE at Money in the Bank 2025.

#3. "We want the Truth" chants may have played a major role

Soon after the news surfaced, the WWE Universe hijacked the crowd on RAW and SmackDown by chanting Truth's name. Fans loudly supported the former Tag Team Champion and demanded his return to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Since Triple H's creative team is known for listening to fans, it's likely that the Chief Content Officer has changed his stance and decided to bring back R-Truth. This could be why the 53-year-old star appeared at Money in the Bank 2025.

#2. R-Truth leaving WWE could be part of a storyline

John Cena mocked R-Truth's release on the latest episode of SmackDown. The Franchise Player already defeated him at Saturday Night's Main Event in a non-title match. The return of Truth at MITB and his attack on Cena raises speculation that the veteran's departure from the company could be part of a storyline angle.

The Game may have tried to generate more buzz around the rivalry between Truth and Cena. This is why, to bring attention from the WWE Universe, Triple H might have made this move.

#1. For a final run against John Cena

John Cena will retire from the Stamford-based promotion this year, as The Cenation Leader is on his final run. In recent years, we have seen many instances when R-Truth acknowledged the Last Real Champion as his childhood hero.

The return of Truth at MITB might have unfolded as the CCO could have planned a final run for the babyface star alongside Cena. This final run could either be part of a contract extension for the legendary star, or he may have signed a deal and could only be part of the company as a wrestler until Cena's final run.
